Winter Time

Its winter time in Washington! Which really isnt that bad. Thank goodness there is hardly any snow and "really cold" is about 40 degrees. I LOVE the Pacific Northwest!

We have been keeping busy for the first part of this year. Between our jobs, house, child and dog, there really isn't much time for anything else. For a while there it was just a juggling act. Doug would come home from work, get an hours sleep as I was leaving for work, then we would switch. Its been a bit stressful, especially for Doug who really didn't sleep on the days he was working.

My job was getting ready to move further away, so I knew I needed to find something else. So I did. I got a job about 5 minutes from home. Its part time so my shifts are short and I can be home so much more. While I do not want to be working at all and using all of my time for Mia, it is the next best thing for us right now.

So I just started that job this week after having a week off. It was a wonderful week! Mia and I got to wake up when we (she) wanted, we napped, cleaned the house (at one point it was spotless... not anymore!), we ran errands, went on walks, let Doug sleep! It was wonderful. Although it was still a lot of work, I loved being home.

My new job seems great so far. The people are all extremely nice, I really think it will be great!

Belated update of our Vermont trip

Whoops. I realized that I never recorded our trip to Vermont back in the beginning of December. I swear having a child makes your brain turn to mush. My memory is horrible and when I think I have done something, I haven't. Also, I don't have very many pictures from the trip!

Unfortunately at the end of November, Doug's grandfather, Don, passed away. It was very sad to have to go back east for such an occasion, but it was good to be able to go. We knew that this was coming, so for about a week we were going back and forth as to whether Mia and I would go back east as well, or if Doug would just go. Mia had never flown before and we were a little nervous. After thinking a lot about it, and the offer to help fly us out, we decided to go. Thank goodness for our friends Jeff, Emily and Nate for helping out with Burrito. It was wonderful knowing that he was taken care of and that we didn't have to worry.

So off we went. We flew into Manchester NH and then drove to Springfield VT. The funeral was the following day. Even though it was such a sad occasion, it was wonderful that Mia got to meet her Great Grandma, Anne, and Dougs Aunt, Uncle and cousins. The service was very nice, set in a little church in Springfield. Its amazing the amount of people that were there that loved Don. I am glad that we were able to be there.

After the service we went back up to Northern Vermont, where Doug and I grew up. It was very weird. I have never been there when my parents weren't. It was hard not turning up the hill to go home to our old house. It was nice to see the town though.

While there the lovely Emily drove up from Boston to see us! I had not seen her in TWO YEARS! That is far to long to go without seeing each other. It was so nice to have dinner with her (at Papa Franks no less!). The next day we drove up to her dads house to have breakfast in town and say goodbye:( I am so glad we got to visit though!

We did a lot of eating. We went to Moe's, Papa Franks and Oriental Wok. All the places we grew up eating and loving but don't have here in Washington.

It was nice to be able to see Doug's family, especially around the holidays! We had a very nice supper with the family and Doug's cousin at his parents house. It was kind of a holiday supper. I am glad in a way we got to celebrate family and the holidays together!

Even though it was a sad reason to go, I am glad we got to go to Vermont and see that part of the family, and have them meet and see Mia!
